I always envisioned my little babe loving her books as much as I did growing up. There is so much to be said about escaping into a great book and letting a wonderful story take over your imagination. Books have the ability to make people, young and old, think that anything is possible. I guess you can see why I taught Language Arts… Turns out, Eliza does love her books! I will often realize that I am hearing only silence and peek into her bedroom to find her sitting under her reading tent (which her daddy made for her) with multiple books spread around her. Of course then I try to sneak out without her seeing me so as to not disturb the safe, silence. I am so excited to watch her love of reading grow and to nurture that love with great books. She definitely has some favorites already. We love Madeline, of course, and some other classics like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. She loves anything that has to do with animals or princesses right now so I am constantly reaching for books that allow her to either make a lion noise or do a little twirl. This brings me to our current favorite (and I think a constant favorite) The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name. Eliza was given this book for her 1st birthday from some really awesome friends of ours. The concept is amazing. I wish I would have thought of it! In the customizable book, the little girl, or boy, goes to sleep and discovers that they have forgotten their name. Of course they must go and find it, which is where the magical journey begins. Depending on the letters in the child’s name, they encounter different animals or characters who end up giving them a letter. In Eliza’s book, the first animal is an Elephant who gives her an “E.” This goes on until they have collected all of the letters of their name. Seriously brilliant. The whole journey is completely personalized for the girl or boy and ends with them putting the letters together to form their name. Educational, imaginative, personal and beautiful. Click here to check out their website for your little one, or a gift, or for yourself. I seriously need a “Marlo” one! If there are any other must reads out there please let me know! We are always looking for new adventures around here!
