Since today is the day that I am giving myself the Christmas gift of finally launching my little site, I wanted to post something that described why I created my small corner of the internet and what exactly Furnish is.
After having our daughter Eliza, my whole world was rocked, in a good way. I felt this need to really start living life and to be bold. I wanted to make sure that the life we gave her was one of adventure and intention. I looked around and saw all of the wonderful things this life has to offer that I wasn’t taking advantage of. It wasn’t enough anymore to just float through life with a sort of whatever happens, happens attitude. I wanted to create life and do everything that I could to make sure that I was being a role model for my daughter as well as giving her a life filled with love and beauty. I was also extra hormonal and beyond sleep deprived, so at first, all of these ideas just seemed like the ravings of a lunatic. However, over time and out of my fog, these feelings lingered and I decided to try to harness them into something tangible and productive. Once I decided not to go back to my teaching job, Furnish really started to materialize and provided me with an outlet and something professional, personal, and grown-up to work on. I’m sure many of you moms can relate to wanting to be a dedicated mom while also having something invigorating and representative of yourself as a woman. Furnish became this for me and I am very grateful for that.
I knew that I wanted a place to write. Writing gives me joy and a place to record my experiences and emotions that isn’t my poor husband’s ear. The blog part was a no-brainer. I also wanted something a bit more tangible to sink my teeth into and I have always love anything vintage. I love antique stores and rummaging through the nooks and crannies of my Gran’s house and eventually, the combining of these two passions became Furnish, creating a well-furnished life and home. Voila! So, for the past 9 months, I have been building this site (which is not my strong suit), getting business licenses, collecting vintage, learning how to take and edit pictures, and writing, with the end goal of putting this all out there for other humans to consume. There have been many hiccups along the way, mostly because of my extreme lack of coding skills, and moments of self-doubt, but I am so proud to have gotten to this point. I hope that you enjoy the space and that you find something, an article, an idea, a recipe, or a vintage find, that inspires you to add a little bit more beauty to your life.
Thank you and happy perusing!
